Vinyl Cover Project - Illustratie Biënnale
I was asked to create an illustration for a vinyl cover of a self-chosen song. I chose Rangel’s Song by Vangelis. This song was played when I had a ceremonial ayahuasca experience. It is one of the songs that I remember very much because I thought it was a beautiful song but at the same time it gave me an uncanny feeling. It reminded me of the sirens in Odyssey in which the sailors are attracted to beautiful singing, but then end badly by following it. I also got that suspicious feeling during my experience when I heard this piece. You do not know whether it contains bad or good energy; probably both. That ambiguous quality makes it so interesting, that convergence of the very calming and at the same time a threatening feeling that trickles through.
